Sunnyside HR manager Irving Brown fired from city government

Date:

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. – A member of the Sunnyside city government who formerly had a restraining order against a City Council member has been fired.

Human Resources Manager Irving Brown confirmed on the morning of September 15 that he had been fired from his position with the City of Sunnyside earlier that day. Brown said he was terminated when he arrived at work in the morning. Brown did not specify if he was informed of the reason for the firing.

Back in May 2025, Irving Brown accused Sunnyside City Council member Theresa Hancock of creating a hostile work environment with racism and harassment targeting him and certain other government officials. Brown was granted a temporary restraining order against Hancock, but a Yakima judge ruled it was no longer necessary on August 27. On September 8, former City Manager Mike Gonzalez, who was allegedly a target of harassment from Hancock, was terminated from his position with the city without cause.
