Dear Editor:
I am unable to endorse Ezequiel Morfin, the Democrat candidate in this year’s 14th District House race position 2. I ran against him during the Primary Election and lost, but I learned a lot about the man during the campaign. Information that prevents me from backing him in November.
Morfin has been arrested and convicted of burglary. He was arrested and convicted of resisting arrest. A protection order was filed against him for domestic violence. He pled guilty to negligent driving. An arrest warrant was issued for failure to pay court fines.
And he has been censured by the Toppenish City Council, while he was an appointed member of the body. Three different police agencies investigated Morfin’s appointment. The final one, Richland PD, concluded he lied to the City Council and to police about his home address and that he did not live in the city of Toppenish.
He resigned days later for “medical reasons.” “In my opinion, these allegations raise serious questions about whether he is qualified to serve in the Legislature and participate in making laws for the people of the 14th Legislative District.”
I am a proud Democrat with a history of community involvement. I care about Yakima Valley. But I cannot endorse Morfin for this important office.
